In my opinion, I think Todd McClure is the best center we have ever had. Also, I think he's one of the best in the league. Given his age, and his recent injuries...I question the status of McClure in the near future for the Falcons. I'd love for him to come back, even for just one more year...as it would be one less problem for the FO to figure out. More Importantly, the Center position anchors the middle of the line. With our Offensive Line troubles, it would be paramount to get our veteran center to come back and play.

Any news or thoughts on McClure and his future with the Falcons??

Ok, I may be wrong with the "Best Ever" statement. However, McClure would certainly help our O-Line next season if he comes back.

I certainly don't see McClure as a detriment. You can never have enough decent lineman.

McClure is overrated, he might not even be the best center on the team.

The only problem I've had with McClure is that he doesn't get the push needed up the gut on short yardage plays. Other than that, he's a very solid center.

My all-time list of Falcon centers:

1) Jeff Van Note
2) Robbie Tobeck
3) Jamie Dukes
4) Todd McClure
5) Roman Fortin

We haven't had many in our franchise history but that's my list. We pretty much went Van Note, Dukes, Fortin, Tobeck, McClure. There are a couple of guys who played here and there but that's pretty much the only 5 starters we've had at center...

I agree with Tobeck too. I thought he was really good.

I saw him get manhandled several times last year. I don't think he's that good at all. We need a new center.

Best Center we have ever had was Jeff Van Note. God forsake you for insulting Jeff Van Note this way

Getting a push up the middle is pretty important.

Todd McClure was good for a while, but his time is done, he needs to retire and go away. Thanks for the memories

If anything I want him to stay b/c if not, then we need another center even if Hawley starts. We already have enough needs.

Based off his play last year, which was borderline Pro Bowl caliber, I'd say he can stick around at least another year. He was top 10 in pass blocking efficiency and graded in the positive for run blocking as well per PFF.

Per PFF here are his 2011 rankings amongst all centers:

1st - sacks allowed (he had zero)
1st - penalties (he had zero)
5th - fewest QB pressures allowed
6th - overall
10th - pass blocking
11th - run blocking
25th - QB hits allowed (only one from 13th)

As someone mentioned earlier several players thought he should have been a Pro Bowler in 2011. He has stated that he still has gas in the tank and wants to return. As for getting push in the middle. Please. Most of our rush yards came up the middle. Watch those 4th and ones again. Some came behind Blalock.

You've come an exceptionally long way to seeing things my way my good friend. Good for you, we are largely in agreement on this issue.

Gaz, my opinion never changed. I've said this for several years now. Sure, there was a time when McClure was below average/average but he did improve and became solid. Back when you and I first got into it he wasn't as solid as he has become. That said, I've always said that my biggest problem was his inability to get push up the middle and that I prefer bull centers...

Not talking about between the 20's, talking about the 3rd and short and 4th and short plays. You know as well as I do that it doesn't matter where the ball is run to. On short yardage plays if the line starts to fail in one place, it's going to affect the whole thing and that's what we've got going on...
