but I have yet to find a place like Steve has mentioned that does the growler.

I'm sure there are tons in Atlanta if that's where you are.

You all need to try Sweetwater Happy Ending.  It is an Imperial Stout.  Hoppy but also malty, very rich with strong dark roasted coffee flavors as well.

Tried Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout last night and it was also very good, but I prefer the Sweetwater.
Happy Ending is great. It's the Dank Tank at the Sweetwater Brewery Happy Hour right now (best happy hour deal in Atlanta IMO)

I've heard good things about Sweetwater but unfortunately they don't sell it here in Kentucky... I see Old Rasputin every time I go to the beer store and come very close to getting it each time but always end up with something else... I'll pick it up next time...

A store near my house Total Wine sells individual beers (a lot of craft brews) which is pretty cool but I have yet to find a place like Steve has mentioned that does the growler.
That's up by Perimeter Mall, right? Not sure about any places up there. Do you work up there as well? I can recommed a few places in the city, but nothing out that way.

He gives it an 8 out of 10.  If you like coffee stouts have *you* tried the Founders Breakfast Stout?
Indeed I have. Very tasty.

Re-reading this thread has actually reminded me of my first growler experience. It was 1998 in Durango, Colorado. I was too young then to really appreciate what an awesome concept it was. The place only sold their own brews, but they were delicious. Microbrews were already well established out West, whereas I had only seen traditional beers up to that point here in the East. That is, until I went up to Boone and Asheville the next year. Say what you will about hippies, but they are always the first to jump in on "heady" products that relate to inebriation.

I love listening to music and partying with hippies.  Just can't talk politics with em... :P

I've been to Boone and have been to Asheville several times as Asheville is only a 60-90 min drive north of me.

What part of town is that?  I'm sure Atlanta is littered with places you can re-fill a growler at.

So during this whole thread I've been focusing more on the beer and not so much the growler... Just looked online and the store that I get all my beer at does in fact have growlers... The link to the list of beers available on tap is broken but I just realized that they're only like 64 ounces (I was thinking it was like a pony keg or something.)  If they have a decent selection I might switch to drinking out of these things exclusively, haha... Love the idea...

Atlanta is so huge though. If you live and work in the Perimeter Mall area, it makes no sense to come downtown for growlers, as magical as they are. And I honestly can't think of any areas right around Perimeter that would have them, though I don't know for sure.

If you head intown - L5P, VaHighlands, Poncey Highlands, Midtown, Downtown, Grant Park, Candler Park, Inman Park, Westside, etc - then there are plenty of places to get them.

Edit: Perimeter Mall is North Atlanta, fairly central, outside of 285.

Ya I have two 64 oz growlers and when I make my beer run I usually re-fill both.  Of course at those places they often fill kegs too...but that's too much for me Posted Image

Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend trying the growler thing.  Draft Beer >>> Bottled Beer

I'm just north of Atlanta in Kennesaw so I will have to look around. Hoping to go on a Sweetwater tour soon with a few friends.

They have a Total Wine here in Kennesaw off of Barrett Parkway. I don't get over to Perimeter too often. I am all for some suggestions if you don't mind.

Regarding the 60 minute IPA, if Greg loves it, I probably would too...

From my experience Rogue seems to be a very good brewery.  I have enjoyed everything of theirs I have tried.  The Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale sounds interesting.  I am also a fan of bourbon.  The new(ish) Jesse James Bourbon is pretty good.

I cut my teeth with the craft brew on Dogfish Head.  That and trappist beer.  I can't remember the name of the trappist beer I would drink but it was excellent, and very strong too.
By the way, ask your friend Greg if he is taking applications for part time internships.  I'm the guy!
