All this talk from the staff about more explosive plays got me thinking. What constitutes an explosive play? If you watch Brady and Co you see a lot of screens and crossing patterns across the middle. Brady rarely drops back and slings it 50 yards. If you watch Rodgers you see a similar scheme. Maybe even more quick slants that often go 20-30 yards a pop.

I think Mularkey envisions "explosive" as more of a 70's raiders style offense. All of his pass plays are slow developing with little or no rhythm. That's what is getting Ryan killed. He is dropping back and waiting for the play to develop. When he makes a quick read in the no huddle he is much more effective. We have Jaquiz Rogers and no screen plays for him where he could really be dangerous.. I don't know if TD is involved in any scheme meetings or decisions, but someone needs to change the course if Mike Smith is unwilling. Just my opinion.

Very good post and I wonder also because these guys rarley drop back that far and plus they are always hitting there guys in stride to make explosive plays once they catch the ball.  I seriously think however we need a change at OC to bring in a more modern approach!

the way the line is blocking it needs to be a 3 step drop and the ball needs to come out.

agreed, this system isnt working imo, we look much better in a no huddle with matt calling the plays ( i understand that no huddle limits the defense but still we look like a better team, ie better protection ect)

I was watching NFL network yesterday and Sterling Sharpe made a very good point about what we should be doing with our passing game and that was to throw the quick slants and screens to Julio and Roddy to let these guys run after the catch because they are just to good and in regards to explosive plays matt just doesn't have time to take 7 step drop to get that explosive play.  This Oline is just not providing that type of protection.  We have to goto the formula of getting the ball out of matt's hands very quickly before defense has time to react.  It just amazes me that MM has not figured this out especially when he has the coaches tape to evaluate.  We have a very good ball club but now I seeing maybe the coaches are holding us back.
